Bruce was born on 13th July, 1945 in California. He has won World’s strongest man title in the year 1977 & 1978.
Bruce is 6ft 2in in height and 150kg in weight. He has authored various books and article relating to strength and has been a member of United States Olympics Committee of executive board. He was also a part of Athletes Advisory Council and Substance, Drug Abuse Committee, Games preparation Committee and Sports Medicine committee. Professionally, he is a Olympics weightlifter, shot put and strong man. In 1963, in school, he was a champion of shot put in CIF California State Meet.

Bruce continued his development in athletics at university level and use to compete in wrestling, discus and shot. He still holds a world record in shot put and ranks 251. He has also won medals for weightlifting. He was involved in organizing and officiating various contests similar to World’s strongest man.
